Hehe, an update finally.
I was really disappointed about the blogger post editor, and it ended in me buying a domain name and hosting space (well I get the hosting space for free, but never mind that :-D). I hope I will now get more time and motivation to write posts.

ESD IC wallet
So, the IC's are ESD sensitive, and also a pain to carry around. I made a little box with esd foam inside to facilitate carrying and storing the IC's. I know that esd boxes exsist, but they are not readily available where i live.
I took a small portable chess, threw out the figures. I bought a sheat of ESD foam from www.conrad.de ( the order number is 172367 - 62 if anybody is interested). The foam comes in 30 x 30 cm sheats so i cut it to the chess box size and put it in.
The final product looks something like this:
And you have a nice functional, portable ESD safe box.
(you probably looked at this blog post and said it looks like shit. well the blogger post editing tool is absolutely unusable. if you know a different way to edit posts let me know)

Canon g10 OEM strap to handstrap mod
I bought a Canon G10. It's a great camera.
The strap you get with it is bulky and not very useful, so I modded it a little and made it into a handstrap.
The pictures basically speak for them self, but here is a little rundown of the process.
The strap was cut in half, then I took one half and sewed it, and now it's a lot more useful.

Ubuntu 9.04 & Firefox & Strange fonts
Ubuntu started using different DPI, depending on the monitor. Up to the jaunty jackalope it used default 96 dpi because some monitors did not report the true size of the monitor thus the wrong dpi.
I think it is a good improvement, the only problem is that firefox does not detect the dpi setting, not by default. So when you change the dpi setting in the System > Preferences > Apperience > Font the change is not reflected in Firefox.
To make it look good again, open the secret :-) firefox menu by writing about:config into the URL line.
Find find layout.css.dpi variable and either specify explicitly the dpi or if you put 0 firefox will get dpi setting from the system.
And voila, your screen looks nice again.

Xilinx Spartan 3a starter kit
OK guys and gals
I just bought the xilinx spartan 3A starter kit. It is going to be here in a few weeks. About two...
I am going to keep you posted about the progress I make and the problems I am obviusly am going to have. I have some experience with vhdl and FPGA-s, but my hands on experience is very limited. So I have about two weeks to brush up on my vhdl, and read the Xilinx documentation.
